| Abstract: | A brief account is rendered to the fundamental concept of transferred epithet; and on that basis, the relationship between the transferred epithet and the word it modifies can be classified into three categories: parallelism, cause effect and pure modification. Its application is illustrated in varied literary styles; for this pragmatic phenomenon, the deletion rule and reordering rule can account. |
