| Abstract: | The present paper attempts to make a cursory comparison of understatement structures in English and Chinese. Then from the angle of the theory of pragmatic translation, six approaches to establishing equivalence in the translation of English understatement are mentioned: (1) paraphrase;(2) amplification;(3) extension;(4) reversion;(5) modification;(6) division. |
