| Abstract: | Perspectives from Kenneth Burke’s rhetorical viewpoints,cognitive linguistics and CDA are brought together to analyze the relationship between metaphor and ideology in the political discourse.An attempt is therefore made to provide a critical framework of metaphor analysis from western rhetorical perspective.The framework combines cognitive metaphor analysis and critical discourse analysis,both of which are under the rhetorical perspective,to give an insight into the rhetorical motive of using metaphor in particular context and the construction of power and ideology by metaphor.The metaphorical construction of reality is guided and constrained by ideology and social power and,simultaneously the use of metaphor is in the service of ideology and social power. |
