日本英语学习和教育的历史进程及特点

日本是英语教育比较成功的国家,随着世界一体化进程的加快以及对外交流的扩大,以交际为目的的英语教学已在各级学校英语教学中成为主要趋势.日本外语学习有悠久的历史和传统,其早期学习的外语种类主要是汉语、葡萄牙语、荷兰语.日本人学习外语的目的可分为三类:为某种特定目的而学习外语,为学习以某种语言所集聚的知识和学问为目的,以及作为国际交流的手段.由于英语目前的国际地位,日本人学习英语和英语教育的重点已放在国际通用人才所具有的交流能力的培养上.

The Historical Development and Characrteristics of English Learning and Education in Japan

This brief thesis aims at the historical development and characteristics of English Learning and Education in Japan.Before the beginning of English learning,Japanese people had already learned some languages such as Chinese,Korean,Portuguese,and Dutch.Especially the system of education in Ogata Koan's "Teki-Juku" which was one of language learning schools in Japan in the nineteenth century helped Japanese people to learn English effectively and systematically.After the Meiji Restoration till today,there have been two main theories about the purpose of learning and teaching English in the history of Japan,one is to understand and Absorb different cultures,and the other is to communicate with people who speak English.As the globalization in every ways is spreading rapidly,however,the Japanese are aware of living in the society where they think they need to speak a common language like English and understand different cultures.
