| Abstract: | The theory of literal translation proposed by Lu Xun is a monumental work in the history of Chinese translation study. Lu Xun emphasized literal translation, however he did not deny the function of free translation totally. He regarded free translation dialectically. The historic significance of his stress on "literal translation" is clarified by analyzing the social historical background, the translator's attitude towards the target culture and his aims from historical perspective. |
