Abstract:Since the Buddhist Classics had been introduced into China in the Han Dynasty, many translation strategies were employed in translating sutras, such as geyi, transliteration and so on. The translation strategy of transliteration occurred in quite an early period and remained popular for a long time. This paper reinterprets Xuanzang's five principles of transliteralion by examining his translation practice to see whether Xuanzang obeyed or violated his five principles of transliteration, and explores the implications for the globalization.
Keywords:Buddhist sutra translation  five principles of transliteration  transliteration
