Some Thoughts on One-Hundred-Year Top Quality Academic Works

The purpose of this article is to rethink deeply about the activity named "the investigation of the top quality academic works in the past century". The obvious tendency is that in these selected and concerned top quality academic works, those from the West especially from America are the majority; the distribution about Chinese top quality works is a dip between two peaks; and among Chinese top quality works the majority belong to the humanity, while those social science works are the minority. What is academic learning? What is the top quality work? How to evaluate it? In a background lack of great minds, the deliberation about these questions could help us recognize that the academic freedom and pluralism, the equal and tolerant research atmosphere, and the down-to-earth personality of pursuing truth are essential to the creation of the top quality work and the academic prosperity.
