On the Rise of Farming-book Writing in Early Modern England

It is a remarkable phenomenon in the history of technological development of English agriculture that farming-book writing rose in early modem England. The significant changes taking place in English population, agriculture, education and idealogy provided favorable conditions for the rise of the farming-book writing. Thus, the numbers of agricultural writers and farming books kept increasing in early modem England. The forms of farming-book writing were diverse and its contents were extensive. Although the farming books of early modern England still contained suspicious or ridiculous contents, lots of their contents were practical and readily understandable, and there were many of their readers among the gentry. It can be argued that the farming books of early modem England were valuable in agricultural practices, and in some places acted as the medium of spreading agricultural technology. The rise of farming-book writing played an important role in the development of agricultural technology in early modern England.
