On the Family Power and Politics in the Minority Areas of Southwest China

Family power and administrative system have experienced changes at different historical periods. In modern times, there appears the revival of family power due to the economic and political reform in the countryside, and in a few regions some powerful families have intervened in "family politics". The social, economic and cultural patterns in the minority areas of southwest China have their own traits. A study of the various ethnic family powers which engage themselves in the non-institutionalized politics will be of much help to the political reform in the minority regions.
