《儒林外史》新议

《儒林外史》首先是一部为"儒林"立品的正面文章,其次才是为"世人"矫俗的"讽刺之书"。它并无教人一定不科举、不征辟、不做官、不要"功名富贵"的意思。它只是把"富贵功名"与"性命"相对比,把科举做官等"荣身之路"与"文行出处"相对比,强调"性命"即个体生命价值和意义。作者在很大程度上是一个带有"复古"倾向的理想主义者,遭遇"一代文人有厄"的时局,所以小说更多对"风尘恶俗"的讽刺与批判。《儒林外史》不仅为明清二代的"儒林"写照,而且为古往今来的读书人写心。它是我国第一部深入探讨知识分子命运及人生价值与意义的思想家的小说,它"足称讽刺之书",是我国社会小说的开山之作。
