英汉隐喻成语翻译中的归化与异化

在隐喻成语翻译过程中,对源语文化的处理一般有"归化"和"异化"两种翻译方法。前者主要以目标语为归属,后者主要以源语文化为归属。翻译方法的选择取决于译者的文化价值驭向、翻译目的、译文受众、源语和目标语的文化差异度等。文章认为,隐喻成语是一种独特的隐喻文化载体,具有鲜明的民族个性,泽者应充分考虑源语和目标语文化的共性和个性,采取以异化为主,归化为辅的翻译原則,把原语隐喻承载的文化信息失真降低到最小限度。

Foreignization and Domestication of Metaphorical Idiom Translation

Foreignization and domestication have been the major translation techniques for metaphorical idiom translation.The former focuses primarily on the semantic content and the cultural individuality of the SL,while the latter focuses essentially upon the comprehension and responses of the receptors of the TL.What translation techniques should be adopted is subject to the values held by the translator,the translating objectives,the TL readers' tastes,as well as the cultural overlap of the SL and the TL.This paper ar- gues that foreignizaion should have priority over domestication in translating metaphorical idioms,so that the loss of the SL cultural in- formation may be reduced to the minimum and the connotation and striking feauture of the SL metaphor will be brought out to the read- er.Only when the SL image of the metaphor clashes with the TL,can domestication adopted in translating the metaphor.
