Significance and Inspiration of Nobel Prize in Economics for Economic Research

Since 1969 when the Nobel Prize in Economics was established, the annual decision-making on who will be the winner(s) has come under the close attention of economists around the world. This is because the Prize is not only a recognition of achievements made by the winner(s) but also an indication of the situation and developing trend of mainstream economics. This paper examines the Prize winners in the past several decades and points to the five trends in the worldwide development of economic research. And it has briefly analyzed the significance and inspiration of the Prize for the study of economics.
