| Abstract: | As a "reformer", Tanchun is a character with a unique personality as well as a tragic figure. She has a keen insight and has the courage to carry out reforms in the contradiction-ridden jia Household. Her remarkable management ability is set off by the strong contrast with evil persons' cunning tricks and her mother's follies. However, due to all kinds of objective reasons, her reforms turn out to be an elegy for the declining jia Household. At the same the, her aggressive words and deeds are related to her unfavourable position as the daughter of a secondary wife. Compared with Black Jade, Precious Hairpin and Madam Phoenix, She is a more tortuous and complicated character. |
