On Du Fu's Three Overlooking Yue Poems

The three overlooking Yue poems by Du Fu are the best among his poems of ascending a height to enjoy a distant view. Of the three poems, the Eastern Yue poem expresses Du Fu's ambitions and lofty sentiments; the Western Yue poem shows that mid-aged Du Fu was afraid of being slandered and ridiculed, and his hope to reenter the imperial government and participate political activities after he was dismissed; while the Southern Yue poem reveals elderly Du Fu's expectation that the governmental officers would improve themselves and devote themselves to the governing of the country.
