The problem of estimation of parameters of a mixture of degenerate (at zero) and exponential distribution is considered by Jayade and Prasad (1990). The sampling scheme proposed in it is extended in this paper to a mixture of degenerate and Inverse Gaussian distribution. The Inverse Gaussian distribution is very relevant for studying reliability and life-testing problems. The inverse Gaussian being the first passage time distribution for Wiener process makes it particularly appropriate for failure or reaction time data analysis.  相似文献

Concerning the estimation of linear parameters in small areas, a nested-error regression model is assumed for the values of the target variable in the units of a finite population. Then, a bootstrap procedure is proposed for estimating the mean squared error (MSE) of the EBLUP under the finite population setup. The consistency of the bootstrap procedure is studied, and a simulation experiment is carried out in order to compare the performance of two different bootstrap estimators with the approximation given by Prasad and Rao [Prasad, N.G.N. and Rao, J.N.K., 1990, The estimation of the mean squared error of small-area estimators. Journal of the American Statistical Association, 85, 163–171.]. In the numerical results, one of the bootstrap estimators shows a better bias behavior than the Prasad–Rao approximation for some of the small areas and not much worse in any case. Further, it shows less MSE in situations of moderate heteroscedasticity and under mispecification of the error distribution as normal when the true distribution is logistic or Gumbel. The proposed bootstrap method can be applied to more general types of parameters (linear of not) and predictors.  相似文献

A model involving autocorrelated random effects and sampling errors is proposed for small-area estimation, using both time-series and cross-sectional data. The sampling errors are assumed to have a known block-diagonal covariance matrix. This model is an extension of a well-known model, due to Fay and Herriot (1979), for cross-sectional data. A two-stage estimator of a small-area mean for the current period is obtained under the proposed model with known autocorrelation, by first deriving the best linear unbiased prediction estimator assuming known variance components, and then replacing them with their consistent estimators. Extending the approach of Prasad and Rao (1986, 1990) for the Fay-Herriot model, an estimator of mean squared error (MSE) of the two-stage estimator, correct to a second-order approximation for a small or moderate number of time points, T, and a large number of small areas, m, is obtained. The case of unknown autocorrelation is also considered. Limited simulation results on the efficiency of two-stage estimators and the accuracy of the proposed estimator of MSE are présentés.  相似文献

In some life tests, exact failure times cannot be observed, because of cost or time constraints. Assuming an exponential distribution with mean on the lifetimes, we study the e ects of type I and type II censored sampling schemes on the estimation of . In particular, the Fisher information, the expected duration of the life test and the mean squared error of the maximum likelihood estimators of under the two types of censored sampling scheme are compared. A simulation study is conducted to study the robustness of the estimators.  相似文献

We proposed a new class of maximum a posteriori estimators for the parameters of the Gamma distribution. These estimators have simple closed-form expressions and can be rewritten as a bias-corrected maximum likelihood estimators presented by Ye and Chen [Closed-form estimators for the gamma distribution derived from likelihood equations. Am Statist. 2017;71(2):177–181]. A simulation study was carried out to compare different estimation procedures. Numerical results revels that our new estimation scheme outperforms the existing closed-form estimators and produces extremely efficient estimates for both parameters, even for small sample sizes.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider estimation of unknown parameters of an inverted exponentiated Rayleigh distribution under type II progressive censored samples. Estimation of reliability and hazard functions is also considered. Maximum likelihood estimators are obtained using the Expectation–Maximization (EM) algorithm. Further, we obtain expected Fisher information matrix using the missing value principle. Bayes estimators are derived under squared error and linex loss functions. We have used Lindley, and Tiernery and Kadane methods to compute these estimates. In addition, Bayes estimators are computed using importance sampling scheme as well. Samples generated from this scheme are further utilized for constructing highest posterior density intervals for unknown parameters. For comparison purposes asymptotic intervals are also obtained. A numerical comparison is made between proposed estimators using simulations and observations are given. A real-life data set is analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

We adapt the ratio estimation using ranked set sampling, suggested by Samawi and Muttlak (Biometr J 38:753–764, 1996), to the ratio estimator for the population mean, based on Prasad (Commun Stat Theory Methods 18:379–392, 1989), in simple random sampling. Theoretically, we show that the proposed ratio estimator for the population mean is more efficient than the ratio estimator, in Prasad (1989), in all conditions. In addition, we support this theoretical result with the aid of a numerical example.   相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we consider a sampling scheme in record-breaking data set-up, as record ranked set sampling. We compare the proposed sampling with the well-known sampling scheme in record values known as inverse sampling scheme when the underlying distribution follows the proportional hazard rate model. Various point estimators are obtained in each sampling schemes and compared with respect to mean squared error and Pitman measure of closeness criteria. It is observed in most of the situations that the new sampling scheme provides more efficient estimators than their counterparts. Finally, one data set has been analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

This study proposes the estimators for the mean and its variance of the number of respondents who possessed a rare sensitive attribute based on stratified sampling schemes (stratified sampling and stratified double sampling). This study deals with the extension of the estimation reported in Land et al. [Estimation of a rare sensitive attribute using Poisson distribution, Statistics (2011), in press. DOI: 10.1080/02331888.2010.524300] using a Poisson distribution and an unrelated question randomized response model reported in Greenberg et al. [The unrelated question randomized response model: Theoretical framework, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 64 (1969), 520–539]. In the stratified sampling, the estimators are proposed when the parameter of the rare unrelated attribute is known and unknown. The variances of estimators using a proportional and optimum allocation are also suggested. The proposed estimators are evaluated using a relative efficiency comparing variances of the estimators reported in Land et al. depending on the parameters and the probability of selecting a question. We showed that our proposed methods have better efficiencies than Land et al.’s randomized response model in some conditions. When the sizes of stratified populations are not given, other estimators are suggested using a stratified double sampling. For the proportional allocation, the difference between two variances in the stratified sampling and the stratified double sampling is given with the known rare unrelated attribute.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present investigation deals with the problem of estimation of population mean in two-phase sampling. In the presence of two auxiliary variables, some classes of estimators have been proposed through predictive approach. Properties of the proposed classes of estimators have been studied, and the unbiased versions of these estimators along with their approximate variance expressions are obtained under simple random sampling without replacement scheme. The respective optimum strategies of the proposed estimators are discussed, and their empirical and graphical comparisons with some contemporary estimators of population mean have been made. Suitable recommendations to the survey practitioner are given.  相似文献

The Birnbaum–Saunders (BS) distribution is a positively skewed distribution, frequently used for analysing lifetime data. In this paper, we propose a simple method of estimation for the parameters of the two-parameter BS distribution by making use of some key properties of the distribution. Compared with the maximum likelihood estimators and the modified moment estimators, the proposed method has smaller bias, but having the same mean square errors as these two estimators. We also discuss some methods of construction of confidence intervals. The performance of the estimators is then assessed by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, an example is used to illustrate the method of estimation developed here.  相似文献

In this work, we propose a consistent method of estimation for the parameters of the three-parameter lognormal distribution. We then discuss some properties of these estimators and show by means of a Monte Carlo simulation study that the proposed estimators perform better than some other prominent estimators in terms of bias and root mean squared error. Neoteric ranked set sampling (NRSS) is a recently developed sampling plan, derived from the well-known ranked set sampling (RSS) scheme. It has already been proved that NRSS provides more efficient estimators for population mean and variance compared to RSS and other sampling designs based on ranked sets. In this work, we propose and evaluate the performance of some two-stage sampling designs based on NRSS. Five different sampling schemes are proposed. Through an extensive Monte Carlo simulation study, we verified that all proposed sampling designs outperform RSS, NRSS, and the original double RSS design, producing estimators for the population mean with a lower mean square error. Furthermore, as with NRSS, two-stage NRSS estimators present some bias for asymmetric distributions. We complement the study with a discussion on the relative performance of the proposed estimators. Moreover, an additional simulation based on data of the diameter and height of pine trees is presented.  相似文献

Politis & Romano (1994) proposed a general subsampling methodology for the construction of large‐sample confidence regions for an arbitrary parameter under minimal conditions. Nevertheless, the subsampling distribution estimators may sometimes be inefficient (in the case of the sample mean of i.i.d. data, for instance) as compared to alternative estimators such as the bootstrap and/or the asymptotic normal distribution (with estimated variance). The authors investigate here the extent to which the performance of subsampling distribution estimators can be improved by interpolation and extrapolation techniques, while at the same time retaining the robustness property of consistent distribution estimation even in nonregular cases; both i.i.d. and weakly dependent (mixing) observations are considered.  相似文献

A robust algorithm for utility-based shortfall risk (UBSR) measures is developed by combining the kernel density estimation with importance sampling (IS) using exponential twisting techniques. The optimal bandwidth of the kernel density is obtained by minimizing the mean square error of the estimators. Variance is reduced by IS where exponential twisting is applied to determine the optimal IS distribution. Conditions for the best distribution parameters are derived based on the piecewise polynomial loss function and the exponential loss function. The proposed method not only solves the problem of sampling from the kernel density but also reduces the variance of the UBSR estimator.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate various properties and methods of estimation of the Weighted Exponential distribution. Although, our main focus is on estimation (from both frequentist and Bayesian point of view) yet, the stochastic ordering, the Bonferroni and the Lorenz curves, various entropies and order statistics are derived first time for the said distribution. Different types of loss functions are considered for Bayesian estimation. Furthermore, the Bayes estimators and their respective posterior risks are computed and compared using Gibbs sampling. The different reliability characteristics including hazard function, stress and strength analysis, and mean residual life function are also derived. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the proposed methods of estimation and two real data sets have been analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

This paper presents a modified exponential type estimation strategy for the current population mean in the presence of random non-response situations in two-occasion successive sampling under two-phase set-up. The properties of the proposed estimators have been examined with the assumption that numbers of sampling units follow a distribution due to random non-response. The performances of the proposed estimators are compared with the estimators designated for the complete response situations. Empirical studies are carried out to show the dominance nature of the proposed estimators over the estimator defined for complete response situations. Appropriate recommendations have been made to the survey practitioners/researchers for their real-life practical applications.  相似文献

The bathtub-shaped failure rate function has been used for modeling the life spans of a number of electronic and mechanical products, as well as for modeling the life spans of humans, especially when some of the data are censored. This article addresses robust methods for the estimation of unknown parameters in a two-parameter distribution with a bathtub-shaped failure rate function based on progressive Type-II censored samples. Here, a class of flexible priors is considered by using the hierarchical structure of a conjugate prior distribution, and corresponding posterior distributions are obtained in a closed-form. Then, based on the square error loss function, Bayes estimators of unknown parameters are derived, which depend on hyperparameters as parameters of the conjugate prior. In order to eliminate the hyperparameters, hierarchical Bayesian estimation methods are proposed, and these proposed estimators are compared to one another based on the mean squared error, through Monte Carlo simulations for various progressively Type-II censoring schemes. Finally, a real dataset is presented for the purpose of illustration.  相似文献

The hybrid censoring scheme is a mixture of Type-I and Type-II censoring schemes. Based on hybrid censored samples, we first derive the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters and the expected Fisher’s information matrix of the generalized inverted exponential distribution (GIED). Monte Carlo simulations are performed to study the performance of the maximum likelihood estimators. Next we consider Bayes estimation under the squared error loss function. These Bayes estimates are evaluated by applying Lindley’s approximation method, the importance sampling procedure and Metropolis–Hastings algorithm. The importance sampling technique is used to compute the highest posterior density credible intervals. Two data sets are analyzed for illustrative purposes. Finally, we discuss a method of obtaining the optimum hybrid censoring scheme.  相似文献
