This annotated bibliography on undergraduate research presents seventeen publications from serials in the library literature covering 1980 to June 2006. These publications are significant contributions from prominent authors that converge at a growing body of library literature on undergraduate research. With a focus on research behaviors, the annotated bibliography has four dimensions: a theoretical framework, main findings of undergraduate research behaviors, relations between faculty and undergraduate research, and a flip side of undergraduate behaviors. Hopefully, this annotated bibliography will familiarize readers with attitudes towards and practices in undergraduate research and a continuation of the research in untouched aspects.  相似文献

This bibliography supplements the list given by Preece (1975) of combinatorial and statistical publications on (a) designs for comparative experiments in three space dimensions, and (b) other related designs. The reader is referred to the original bibliography for details of the scope of the listing.
This supplementary bibliography includes a few publications overlooked previously, as well as recent additions to the literature.
Once again, many Soviet items are included. As previously, the system adopted for transliteration from Russian is that used by Mathematical Reviews.  相似文献

Any experiment in which one or more of the experimental units is used more than once is called a repeated measurements experiment. The associated design of a repeated measurements experiment is referred to as a repeated measurements design. This review covers some known results on repeated measurements designs. Emphasis is placed on the impact of optimal design theory. Some construction methods for these designs are presented. Hedayat and Afsarinejad (1975) has an extensive bibliography of earlier literature. A bibliography of these designs published after 1974 is provided at the end of this paper.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to assess and compare several statistical methods for hyperspectral image supervised classification only using the spectral dimension. Since hyperspectral profiles may be viewed either as a random vector or a random curve, we propose to confront various multivariate discriminating procedures with functional alternatives. Eight methods representing three important statistical communities (mixture models, machine learning and functional data analysis) have been applied on three hyperspectral datasets following three protocols studying the influence of size and composition of the learning sample, with or without noised labels. Besides this comparative study, this work proposes a functional extension of multinomial logit model as well as a fast computing adaptation of the nonparametric functional discrimination. As a by-product, this work provides a useful comprehensive bibliography and also supplemental material especially oriented towards practitioners.  相似文献

This list brings up to date the references in my "Bibliography of Vital Statistics in Australia and New Zealand" Austral. J. Statist. 6 (1964) 33–99 and the "Bibliography of Vital Statistics in Australia: a second list" ibid (1973) 1–26. The cover of the Journals remains the same as listed on page 33 of the original bibliography and continues up to the end of 1980 in most cases. As mentioned in the second list, there are few references to New Zealand sources because of the publication of the bibliography of Dr. J. W. Donovan. Some references are given to works devoted to the health of the aboriginal population but this field is more completely done by Moodie & Pedersen (1971).  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to survey a number of the technical tools and models that have found use in the study of human and other populations, and to indicate some problems of current interest. These tools and models are varied: integral equations, nonlinear oscillations, differential geometry, dynamical systems, nonlinear operations, bifurcation theory, semigroup theory, martingale theory, Markov processes, diffusion processes, branching processes, ergodic theory, prediction theory and state-space models. In this paper, we examine the performance of Anderson's classification statistic with covariate adjustment in comparison with the usual Anderson's classification statistic without covariate adjustment in a two-population normal covariate classification problem. The same problem has been investigated using different methods of comparison by some authors. See the bibliography. The aim of this paper is to give a direct comparison based upon the asymptotic probabilities of misclassification. It is shown that for large equal sample size of a training sample from each population, Anderson's classification statistic with covariate adjustment and cut-off point equal to zero, has better performance.  相似文献

Loddon Mallee Integrated Cancer Service plays a key role in planning the delivery of cancer services in the Loddon Mallee Region of Victoria, Australia. Forecasting the incidence of cancer is an important part of planning for these services. This article is written from an industry perspective. We describe the context of our work, review the literature on forecasting the incidence of cancer, discuss contemporary approaches, describe our experience with forecasting models, and list issues associated with applying these models. We present some comments on Latin squares and on Graeco-Latin squares, with special emphasis on their use in statistics and in a historical context. We also comment on the Knut Vik square, the knight’s move design and the knight’s tour, as well as the Magic Card Puzzle. We consider the well-known 36 officers problem studied by Euler (Verhandelingen uitgegeven door het zeeuwsch Genootschap der Wetenschappen te Vlissingen, vol. 9 (Middleburg 1782), pp. 85–239, 1779/1782), and give two examples of diagonal Latin squares of order 6 due, respectively, to Abbé François-Guillaume Poignard (Chez Guillaume Fricx, Imprimeur &; libraire ruë Bergestract, à l’enseigne des quatre Evangelistes, Bruxelles [4] 79 pp. (p. 71 folded), 1704) and József Dénes (J Lond Math Soc Ser 2, 6(4):679–689, 1970). The death, in Sydney, of Oliver Lancaster marks the end of an era in the histories of the Statistical Society of Australia, which (in its previous existence as the Statistical Society of New South Wales) he helped found in 1947, and of the Australian Journal of Statistics of which he was founding editor (1959–1971). Oliver Lancaster was Foundation Professor of Mathematical Statistics at the University of Sydney (1959–1978), where he spent his life as student and academic. During his academic career, he achieved scholarly distinction in at least four fields: mathematical statistics, medical and public health statistics, the history of medicine and of statistics, and statistical bibliography. With E.J.G. Pitman (1897–1993), M.H. Belz (1897–1975), E.A. Cornish (1909–1973) and P.A.P. Moran (1917–1988) he was part of a cohort of renowned Australian mathematical statisticians who laid the foundation of the glory days of Australian mathematical statistics. This obituary and tribute focuses on some of these aspects, within a broader historical picture.  相似文献
