To enhance modeling flexibility, the authors propose a nonparametric hazard regression model, for which the ordinary and weighted least squares estimation and inference procedures are studied. The proposed model does not assume any parametric specifications on the covariate effects, which is suitable for exploring the nonlinear interactions between covariates, time and some exposure variable. The authors propose the local ordinary and weighted least squares estimators for the varying‐coefficient functions and establish the corresponding asymptotic normality properties. Simulation studies are conducted to empirically examine the finite‐sample performance of the new methods, and a real data example from a recent breast cancer study is used as an illustration. In this article, we address the testing problem for additivity in nonparametric regression models. We develop a kernel‐based consistent test of a hypothesis of additivity in nonparametric regression, and establish its asymptotic distribution under a sequence of local alternatives. Compared to other existing kernel‐based tests, the proposed test is shown to effectively ameliorate the influence from estimation bias of the additive component of the nonparametric regression, and hence increase its efficiency. Most importantly, it avoids the tuning difficulties by using estimation‐based optimal criteria, while there is no direct tuning strategy for other existing kernel‐based testing methods. We discuss the usage of the new test and give numerical examples to demonstrate the practical performance of the test. Efficient inference for regression models requires that the heteroscedasticity be taken into account. We consider statistical inference under heteroscedasticity in a semiparametric measurement error regression model, in which some covariates are measured with errors. This paper has multiple components. First, we propose a new method for testing the heteroscedasticity. The advantages of the proposed method over the existing ones are that it does not need any nonparametric estimation and does not involve any mismeasured variables. Second, we propose a new two-step estimator for the error variances if there is heteroscedasticity. Finally, we propose a weighted estimating equation-based estimator (WEEBE) for the regression coefficients and establish its asymptotic properties. Compared with existing estimators, the proposed WEEBE is asymptotically more efficient, avoids undersmoothing the regressor functions and requires less restrictions on the observed regressors. Simulation studies show that the proposed test procedure and estimators have nice finite sample performance. A real data set is used to illustrate the utility of our proposed methods.  相似文献

We investigate the asymptotic behavior of a nonparametric M-estimator of a regression function for stationary dependent processes, where the explanatory variables take values in some abstract functional space. Under some regularity conditions, we give the weak and strong consistency of the estimator as well as its asymptotic normality. We also give two examples of functional processes that satisfy the mixing conditions assumed in this paper. Furthermore, a simulated example is presented to examine the finite sample performance of the proposed estimator.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of the probability density estimation in the presence of covariates when data are missing at random (MAR). The inverse probability weighted method is used to define a nonparametric and a semiparametric weighted probability density estimators. A regression calibration technique is also used to define an imputed estimator. It is shown that all the estimators are asymptotically normal with the same asymptotic variance as that of the inverse probability weighted estimator with known selection probability function and weights. Also, we establish the mean squared error (MSE) bounds and obtain the MSE convergence rates. A simulation is carried out to assess the proposed estimators in terms of the bias and standard error.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with semiparametric discrete kernel estimators when the unknown count distribution can be considered to have a general weighted Poisson form. The estimator is constructed by multiplying the Poisson estimate with a nonparametric discrete kernel-type estimate of the Poisson weight function. Comparisons are then carried out with the ordinary discrete kernel probability mass function estimators. The Poisson weight function is thus a local multiplicative correction factor, and is considered as the uniform measure to detect departures from the equidispersed Poisson distribution. In this way, the effects of dispersion and zero-proportion with respect to the standard Poisson distribution are also minimized. This method of estimation is also applied to the weighted binomial form for the count distribution having a finite support. The proposed estimators, in addition to being simple, easy-to-implement and effective, also outperform the competing nonparametric and parametric estimators in finite-sample situations. Two examples illustrate this new semiparametric estimation.  相似文献

This paper studies the estimation in the proportional odds model based on randomly truncated data. The proposed estimators for the regression coefficients include a class of minimum distance estimators defined through weighted empirical odds function. We have investigated the asymptotic properties like the consistency and the limiting distribution of the proposed estimators under mild conditions. The finite sample properties were investigated through simulation study making comparison of some of the estimators in the class. We conclude with an illustration of our proposed method to a well-known AIDS data.  相似文献

The performance of clinical tests for disease screening is often evaluated using the area under the receiver‐operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC). Recent developments have extended the traditional setting to the AUC with binary time‐varying failure status. Without considering covariates, our first theme is to propose a simple and easily computed nonparametric estimator for the time‐dependent AUC. Moreover, we use generalized linear models with time‐varying coefficients to characterize the time‐dependent AUC as a function of covariate values. The corresponding estimation procedures are proposed to estimate the parameter functions of interest. The derived limiting Gaussian processes and the estimated asymptotic variances enable us to construct the approximated confidence regions for the AUCs. The finite sample properties of our proposed estimators and inference procedures are examined through extensive simulations. An analysis of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) 175 data is further presented to show the applicability of the proposed methods. Varying coefficient partially linear models are usually used for longitudinal data analysis, and an interest is mainly to improve efficiency of regression coefficients. By the orthogonality estimation technology and the quadratic inference function method, we propose a new orthogonality-based estimation method to estimate parameter and nonparametric components in varying coefficient partially linear models with longitudinal data. The proposed procedure can separately estimate the parametric and nonparametric components, and the resulting estimators do not affect each other. Under some mild conditions, we establish some asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators. Furthermore, the finite sample performance of the proposed procedure is assessed by some simulation experiments.  相似文献

The complexity of semiparametric models poses new challenges to statistical inference and model selection that frequently arise from real applications. In this work, we propose new estimation and variable selection procedures for the semiparametric varying-coefficient partially linear model. We first study quantile regression estimates for the nonparametric varying-coefficient functions and the parametric regression coefficients. To achieve nice efficiency properties, we further develop a semiparametric composite quantile regression procedure. We establish the asymptotic normality of proposed estimators for both the parametric and nonparametric parts and show that the estimators achieve the best convergence rate. Moreover, we show that the proposed method is much more efficient than the least-squares-based method for many non-normal errors and that it only loses a small amount of efficiency for normal errors. In addition, it is shown that the loss in efficiency is at most 11.1% for estimating varying coefficient functions and is no greater than 13.6% for estimating parametric components. To achieve sparsity with high-dimensional covariates, we propose adaptive penalization methods for variable selection in the semiparametric varying-coefficient partially linear model and prove that the methods possess the oracle property. Extensive Monte Carlo simulation studies are conducted to examine the finite-sample performance of the proposed procedures. Finally, we apply the new methods to analyze the plasma beta-carotene level data.  相似文献

Robust estimating equation based on statistical depth   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper the estimating equation is constructed via statistical depth. The obtained estimating equation and parameter estimation have desirable robustness, which attain very high breakdown values close to 1/2. At the same time, the obtained parameter estimation still has ordinary asymptotic behaviours such as asymptotic normality. In particular, the robust quasi likelihood and depth-weighted LSE respectively for nonlinear and linear regression model are introduced. A suggestion for choosing weight function and a method of constructing depth-weighed quasi likelihood equation are given. We study an autoregressive time series model with a possible change in the regression parameters. Approximations to the critical values for change-point tests are obtained through various bootstrapping methods. Theoretical results show that the bootstrapping procedures have the same limiting behavior as their asymptotic counterparts discussed in Hušková et al. [2007. On the detection of changes in autoregressive time series, I. Asymptotics. J. Statist. Plann. Inference 137, 1243–1259]. In fact, a small simulation study illustrates that the bootstrap tests behave better than the original asymptotic tests if performance is measured by the αα- and ββ-errors, respectively.  相似文献

Conditional probability distributions have been commonly used in modeling Markov chains. In this paper we consider an alternative approach based on copulas to investigate Markov-type dependence structures. Based on the realization of a single Markov chain, we estimate the parameters using one- and two-stage estimation procedures. We derive asymptotic properties of the marginal and copula parameter estimators and compare performance of the estimation procedures based on Monte Carlo simulations. At low and moderate dependence structures the two-stage estimation has comparable performance as the maximum likelihood estimation. In addition we propose a parametric pseudo-likelihood ratio test for copula model selection under the two-stage procedure. We apply the proposed methods to an environmental data set.  相似文献

The authors propose a new monotone nonparametric estimate for a regression function of two or more variables. Their method consists in applying successively one‐dimensional isotonization procedures on an initial, unconstrained nonparametric regression estimate. In the case of a strictly monotone regression function, they show that the new estimate and the initial one are first‐order asymptotic equivalent; they also establish asymptotic normality of an appropriate standardization of the new estimate. In addition, they show that if the regression function is not monotone in one of its arguments, the new estimate and the initial one have approximately the same Lp‐norm. They illustrate their approach by means of a simulation study, and two data examples are analyzed.  相似文献

Abstract.  Prediction error is critical to assess model fit and evaluate model prediction. We propose the cross-validation (CV) and approximated CV methods for estimating prediction error under the Bregman divergence (BD), which embeds nearly all of the commonly used loss functions in the regression, classification procedures and machine learning literature. The approximated CV formulas are analytically derived, which facilitate fast estimation of prediction error under BD. We then study a data-driven optimal bandwidth selector for local-likelihood estimation that minimizes the overall prediction error or equivalently the covariance penalty. It is shown that the covariance penalty and CV methods converge to the same mean-prediction-error-criterion. We also propose a lower-bound scheme for computing the local logistic regression estimates and demonstrate that the algorithm monotonically enhances the target local likelihood and converges. The idea and methods are extended to the generalized varying-coefficient models and additive models.  相似文献

Nonparametric regression—directly or indirectly observed—is one of the important statistical models. On one hand it contains two infinite dimensional parameters (the regression function and the error density), and on the other it is of rather simple structure. Therefore, it may serve as an interesting paradigm for illustrating or developing abstract statistical theory for non-Euclidean parameters. In this paper estimation of a linear functional of the indirectly observed regression function is considered, when a deterministic design is used. It should be noted that any Fourier coefficient of an expansion of the regression function in an orthonormal basis is such a functional. Because the design is deterministic the observables are independent but not identically distributed. Local asymptotic normality is established and applied to prove Hájek's convolution theorem for this functional. Pertinent references are Beran [1977. Robust location estimates. Ann. Statist. 5, 431–444] and McNeney and Wellner [2000. Application of convolution theorems in semiparametric models with non-i.i.d. data. J. Statist. Plann. Inference 91, 441–480]. For purposes explained above, however, the paper is kept self-contained and full proofs are provided.  相似文献

The penalized logistic regression (PLR) is a powerful statistical tool for classification. It has been commonly used in many practical problems. Despite its success, since the loss function of the PLR is unbounded, resulting classifiers can be sensitive to outliers. To build more robust classifiers, we propose the robust PLR (RPLR) which uses truncated logistic loss functions, and suggest three schemes to estimate conditional class probabilities. Connections of the RPLR with some other existing work on robust logistic regression have been discussed. Our theoretical results indicate that the RPLR is Fisher consistent and more robust to outliers. Moreover, we develop estimated generalized approximate cross validation (EGACV) for the tuning parameter selection. Through numerical examples, we demonstrate that truncating the loss function indeed yields better performance in terms of classification accuracy and class probability estimation.  相似文献

This article presents new nonparametric tests for heteroscedasticity in nonlinear and nonparametric regression models. The tests have an asymptotic standard normal distribution under the null hypothesis of homoscedasticity and are robust against any form of heteroscedasticity. A Monte Carlo simulation with critical values obtained from the wild bootstrap procedure is provided to asses the finite sample performances of the tests. A real application of testing interest rate volatility functions illustrates the usefulness of the tests proposed. The Canadian Journal of Statistics © 2009 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

This article investigates the large sample interval mapping method for genetic trait loci (GTL) in a finite non-linear regression mixture model. The general model includes most commonly used kernel functions, such as exponential family mixture, logistic regression mixture and generalized linear mixture models, as special cases. The populations derived from either the backcross or intercross design are considered. In particular, unlike all existing results in the literature in the finite mixture models, the large sample results presented in this paper do not require the boundness condition on the parametric space. Therefore, the large sample theory presented in this article possesses general applicability to the interval mapping method of GTL in genetic research. The limiting null distribution of the likelihood ratio test statistics can be utilized easily to determine the threshold values or p-values required in the interval mapping. The limiting distribution is proved to be free of the parameter values of null model and free of the choice of a kernel function. Extension to the multiple marker interval GTL detection is also discussed. Simulation study results show favorable performance of the asymptotic procedure when sample sizes are moderate.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the estimation of both the parameters and the nonparametric link function in partially linear single‐index models for longitudinal data that may be unbalanced. In particular, a new three‐stage approach is proposed to estimate the nonparametric link function using marginal kernel regression and the parametric components with generalized estimating equations. The resulting estimators properly account for the within‐subject correlation. We show that the parameter estimators are asymptotically semiparametrically efficient. We also show that the asymptotic variance of the link function estimator is minimized when the working error covariance matrices are correctly specified. The new estimators are more efficient than estimators in the existing literature. These asymptotic results are obtained without assuming normality. The finite‐sample performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation studies. In addition, two real‐data examples are analyzed to illustrate the methodology.  相似文献
