Abstract

Repeated measurement designs are widely used in medicine, pharmacology, animal sciences and psychology. If there is a restriction on the total number of treatments, some experimental units can receive on the total length of time while some experimental units can remain in the trial, then repeated measurements designs with unequal period sizes should be used. In this article, some infinite series are developed to generate the minimal balanced repeated measurement designs in periods of three different sizes p1, p2 and p3, where 2?≤?p3?<?p2 ≤ 10 and p2?<?p1.  相似文献

Abstract

Balanced repeated measurements designs (RMDs) balance out the residual effects. Williams Latin square designs work as minimal combinatorial balanced as well as variance balanced for RMDs for p (period sizes) = v (number of treatments). If minimal balanced RMDs cannot be constructed for the situations where p must be less than v then weakly balanced RMDs should be preferred. In this article, some generators are developed to generate circular weakly balanced RMDs in periods of two different sizes. To obtain the proposed designs, some construction procedures are also described for some of the cases where we could not develop generators.  相似文献

Abstract

Repeated measurement designs (RMDs) are widely used in medicine, pharmacology, animal sciences and psychology. In these fields, there are several situations where these designs should be used in periods of different sizes. With the use of RMD, residual effects or carry over effects may arise and balanced RMDs are solution to this problem. In this article, therefore, some infinite series are developed through method of cyclic shifts to obtain circular balanced repeated measurements designs in periods of two different sizes.  相似文献

Abstract

Repeated Measurements Designs have been widely used in agriculture, animal husbandry, education, biology, botany and engineering. Balanced or strongly balanced repeated measurements designs are useful to balance out the residual effects. In this article, some new generators and construction procedures are proposed to obtain circular strongly balanced repeated measurements designs in periods of (a) equal sizes, (b) two different sizes, and (c) three different sizes.  相似文献

Repeated measurement designs are widely used in medicine, pharmacology, animal sciences and psychology. These designs balance out the residual effects. The situations where balanced repeated measurements designs require a large number of the subjects, partially-balanced repeated measurements designs should be used. In this paper some infinite series are developed which provide circular partially-balanced repeated measurement designs for p (periods) even. Catalogues of circular partially-balanced repeated measurement designs are also presented for v (treatments) ≤ 100 with p = 5, 7 & 9.  相似文献

This paper presents tables of the optimal repeated measurements designs for the estimation of direct effects and of residual effects for a model with independent errors, for up to n = 10 experimental units, for t= 2 treatments and p= 2, 3 or 4 periods, and for t= 3 treatments and p= 2 or 3 periods.  相似文献

Summary This paper is concerned with the designs in which each experimental unit is assigned more than once to a treatment, either different or identical. An easy method of constructing balanced minimal repeated measurements designs with unequal period sizes is presented whenever the number of periods is less than the number of treatments. Strongly balanced minimal repeated measurements designs with unequal period sizes are also constructed whenever the number of periods is less than the number of treatments.  相似文献

The paper discusses D-optimal axial designs for the additive quadratic and cubic mixture models σ1≤i≤qixi + βiix2i) and σ1≤i≤qixi + βiix2i + βiiix3i), where xi≥ 0, x1 + . . . + xq = 1. For the quadratic model, a saturated symmetric axial design is used, in which support points are of the form (x1, . . . , xq) = [1 ? (q?1)δi, δi, . . . , δi], where i = 1, 2 and 0 ≤δ2 <δ1 ≤ 1/(q ?1). It is proved that when 3 ≤q≤ 6, the above design is D-optimal if δ2 = 0 and δ1 = 1/(q?1), and when q≥ 7 it is D-optimal if δ2 = 0 and δ1 = [5q?1 ? (9q2?10q + 1)1/2]/(4q2). Similar results exist for the cubic model, with support points of the form (x1, . . . , xq) = [1 ? (q?1)δi, δi, . . . , δi], where i = 1, 2, 3 and 0 = δ3 <δ2 < δ1 ≤1/(q?1). The saturated D-optimal axial design and D-optimal design for the quadratic model are compared in terms of their efficiency and uniformity.  相似文献

Crossover designs, or repeated measurements designs, are used for experiments in which t treatments are applied to each of n experimental units successively over p time periods. Such experiments are widely used in areas such as clinical trials, experimental psychology and agricultural field trials. In addition to the direct effect on the response of the treatment in the period of application, there is also the possible presence of a residual, or carry-over, effect of a treatment from one or more previous periods. We use a model in which the residual effect from a treatment depends upon the treatment applied in the succeeding period; that is, a model which includes interactions between the treatment direct and residual effects. We assume that residual effects do not persist further than one succeeding period.A particular class of strongly balanced repeated measurements designs with n=t2 units and which are uniform on the periods is examined. A lower bound for the A-efficiency of the designs for estimating the direct effects is derived and it is shown that such designs are highly efficient for any number of periods p=2,…,2t.  相似文献

Magda (1980) introduced a model for repeated measurements designs with a circular structure of the residual effects. He proved the universal optimality of circular balanced uniform designs over a subclass of the possible designs. We strengthen his result to optimality over the set of all designs with the same number of experimental units, periods and treatments.  相似文献

Neighbor-balanced designs are useful to remove the neighbor effects in experiments where the performance of a treatment is affected by the treatments applied to its adjacent neighbors. In this article, neighbor-balanced designs are constructed in linear blocks of (i) equal sizes and (ii) two different sizes k 1 and k 2.  相似文献

A-optimal and mv optimal repeated measurments designs for comparing serveral test treatments with a control are considered. the models considered are basically of two types: without preperides and the cirular model. It is shown known that some known strongly balanced uniform repeated measurements designs can be modified to obtain optimal designs for this problem. Some other methods of finding optimal designs are also given.  相似文献

Two‐phase sampling is often used for estimating a population total or mean when the cost per unit of collecting auxiliary variables, x, is much smaller than the cost per unit of measuring a characteristic of interest, y. In the first phase, a large sample s1 is drawn according to a specific sampling design p(s1) , and auxiliary data x are observed for the units is1 . Given the first‐phase sample s1 , a second‐phase sample s2 is selected from s1 according to a specified sampling design {p(s2s1) } , and (y, x) is observed for the units is2 . In some cases, the population totals of some components of x may also be known. Two‐phase sampling is used for stratification at the second phase or both phases and for regression estimation. Horvitz–Thompson‐type variance estimators are used for variance estimation. However, the Horvitz–Thompson ( Horvitz & Thompson, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 1952 ) variance estimator in uni‐phase sampling is known to be highly unstable and may take negative values when the units are selected with unequal probabilities. On the other hand, the Sen–Yates–Grundy variance estimator is relatively stable and non‐negative for several unequal probability sampling designs with fixed sample sizes. In this paper, we extend the Sen–Yates–Grundy ( Sen , J. Ind. Soc. Agric. Statist. 1953; Yates & Grundy , J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. B 1953) variance estimator to two‐phase sampling, assuming fixed first‐phase sample size and fixed second‐phase sample size given the first‐phase sample. We apply the new variance estimators to two‐phase sampling designs with stratification at the second phase or both phases. We also develop Sen–Yates–Grundy‐type variance estimators of the two‐phase regression estimators that make use of the first‐phase auxiliary data and known population totals of some of the auxiliary variables.  相似文献

Neighbor balanced designs are used to remove the neighbor effects but most of these designs require a large number of blocks. To neutralize the neighbor effects in such situations, GN2-designs are most desirable. This article deals with the (i) refinement of some series of GN2-designs constructed by Zafaryab et al. (2010) and (ii) construction of some new series of GN2-designs in circular blocks of equal size.  相似文献

Control charts designed for the properties of non conformities, also called p control charts, are powerful tools used for monitoring a performance of the fraction of non conforming units. Constructing a p chart is often based on the assumption that the in-control proportion of non conforming items (p 0) is known. In practice, the value of p 0 is rarely known and is frequently replaced by an estimate from an in-control reference sample in Phase I. This article investigates the effects of sample sizes in both Phase I and Phase II on the performance of p control charts. The conditional and marginal run length distributions are derived and the corresponding numerical studies are conducted. Moreover, the minimal sample sizes required in Phases I and II to ensure adequate statistical performance are proposed when p 0 = 0.1 and 0.005.  相似文献

Recently, several new robust multivariate estimators of location and scatter have been proposed that provide new and improved methods for detecting multivariate outliers. But for small sample sizes, there are no results on how these new multivariate outlier detection techniques compare in terms of p n , their outside rate per observation (the expected proportion of points declared outliers) under normality. And there are no results comparing their ability to detect truly unusual points based on the model that generated the data. Moreover, there are no results comparing these methods to two fairly new techniques that do not rely on some robust covariance matrix. It is found that for an approach based on the orthogonal Gnanadesikan–Kettenring estimator, p n can be very unsatisfactory with small sample sizes, but a simple modification gives much more satisfactory results. Similar problems were found when using the median ball algorithm, but a modification proved to be unsatisfactory. The translated-biweights (TBS) estimator generally performs well with a sample size of n≥20 and when dealing with p-variate data where p≤5. But with p=8 it can be unsatisfactory, even with n=200. A projection method as well the minimum generalized variance method generally perform best, but with p≤5 conditions where the TBS method is preferable are described. In terms of detecting truly unusual points, the methods can differ substantially depending on where the outliers happen to be, the number of outliers present, and the correlations among the variables.  相似文献
