Partial linear varying coefficient models are often used in real data analysis for a good balance between flexibility and parsimony. In this paper, we propose a robust adaptive model selection method based on the rank regression, which can do simultaneous coefficient estimation and three types of selections, i.e., varying and constant effects selection, relevant variable selection. The new method has superiority in robustness and efficiency by inheriting the advantage of the rank regression approach. Furthermore, consistency in the three types of selections and oracle property in estimation are established as well. Simulation studies also confirm our method.  相似文献

We propose a penalized quantile regression for partially linear varying coefficient (VC) model with longitudinal data to select relevant non parametric and parametric components simultaneously. Selection consistency and oracle property are established. Furthermore, if linear part and VC part are unknown, we propose a new unified method, which can do three types of selections: separation of varying and constant effects, selection of relevant variables, and it can be carried out conveniently in one step. Consistency in the three types of selections and oracle property in estimation are established as well. Simulation studies and real data analysis also confirm our method.  相似文献

Motivated by the need to analyze the National Longitudinal Surveys data, we propose a new semiparametric longitudinal mean‐covariance model in which the effects on dependent variable of some explanatory variables are linear and others are non‐linear, while the within‐subject correlations are modelled by a non‐stationary autoregressive error structure. We develop an estimation machinery based on least squares technique by approximating non‐parametric functions via B‐spline expansions and establish the asymptotic normality of parametric estimators as well as the rate of convergence for the non‐parametric estimators. We further advocate a new model selection strategy in the varying‐coefficient model framework, for distinguishing whether a component is significant and subsequently whether it is linear or non‐linear. Besides, the proposed method can also be employed for identifying the true order of lagged terms consistently. Monte Carlo studies are conducted to examine the finite sample performance of our approach, and an application of real data is also illustrated.  相似文献

As a useful supplement to mean regression, quantile regression is a completely distribution-free approach and is more robust to heavy-tailed random errors. In this paper, a variable selection procedure for quantile varying coefficient models is proposed by combining local polynomial smoothing with adaptive group LASSO. With an appropriate selection of tuning parameters by the BIC criterion, the theoretical properties of the new procedure, including consistency in variable selection and the oracle property in estimation, are established. The finite sample performance of the newly proposed method is investigated through simulation studies and the analysis of Boston house price data. Numerical studies confirm that the newly proposed procedure (QKLASSO) has both robustness and efficiency for varying coefficient models irrespective of error distribution, which is a good alternative and necessary supplement to the KLASSO method.  相似文献

The varying coefficient model (VCM) is an important generalization of the linear regression model and many existing estimation procedures for VCM were built on L 2 loss, which is popular for its mathematical beauty but is not robust to non-normal errors and outliers. In this paper, we address the problem of both robustness and efficiency of estimation and variable selection procedure based on the convex combined loss of L 1 and L 2 instead of only quadratic loss for VCM. By using local linear modeling method, the asymptotic normality of estimation is driven and a useful selection method is proposed for the weight of composite L 1 and L 2. Then the variable selection procedure is given by combining local kernel smoothing with adaptive group LASSO. With appropriate selection of tuning parameters by Bayesian information criterion (BIC) the theoretical properties of the new procedure, including consistency in variable selection and the oracle property in estimation, are established. The finite sample performance of the new method is investigated through simulation studies and the analysis of body fat data. Numerical studies show that the new method is better than or at least as well as the least square-based method in terms of both robustness and efficiency for variable selection.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we focus on the variable selection for semiparametric varying coefficient partially linear model with response missing at random. Variable selection is proposed based on modal regression, where the non parametric functions are approximated by B-spline basis. The proposed procedure uses SCAD penalty to realize variable selection of parametric and nonparametric components simultaneously. Furthermore, we establish the consistency, the sparse property and asymptotic normality of the resulting estimators. The penalty estimation parameters value of the proposed method is calculated by EM algorithm. Simulation studies are carried out to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed variable selection procedure.  相似文献

Functional data analysis has become an important area of research because of its ability of handling high‐dimensional and complex data structures. However, the development is limited in the context of linear mixed effect models and, in particular, for small area estimation. The linear mixed effect models are the backbone of small area estimation. In this article, we consider area‐level data and fit a varying coefficient linear mixed effect model where the varying coefficients are semiparametrically modelled via B‐splines. We propose a method of estimating the fixed effect parameters and consider prediction of random effects that can be implemented using a standard software. For measuring prediction uncertainties, we derive an analytical expression for the mean squared errors and propose a method of estimating the mean squared errors. The procedure is illustrated via a real data example, and operating characteristics of the method are judged using finite sample simulation studies.  相似文献

Geographically weighted regression (GWR) is an important tool for exploring spatial non-stationarity of a regression relationship, in which whether a regression coefficient really varies over space is especially important in drawing valid conclusions on the spatial variation characteristics of the regression relationship. This paper proposes a so-called GWGlasso method for structure identification and variable selection in GWR models. This method penalizes the loss function of the local-linear estimation of the GWR model by the coefficients and their partial derivatives in the way of the adaptive group lasso and can simultaneously identify spatially varying coefficients, nonzero constant coefficients and zero coefficients. Simulation experiments are further conducted to assess the performance of the proposed method and the Dublin voter turnout data set is analysed to demonstrate its application.  相似文献

The beta regression models are commonly used by practitioners to model variables that assume values in the standard unit interval (0, 1). In this paper, we consider the issue of variable selection for beta regression models with varying dispersion (VBRM), in which both the mean and the dispersion depend upon predictor variables. Based on a penalized likelihood method, the consistency and the oracle property of the penalized estimators are established. Following the coordinate descent algorithm idea of generalized linear models, we develop new variable selection procedure for the VBRM, which can efficiently simultaneously estimate and select important variables in both mean model and dispersion model. Simulation studies and body fat data analysis are presented to illustrate the proposed methods.  相似文献

We propose a new algorithm for simultaneous variable selection and parameter estimation for the single-index quantile regression (SIQR) model . The proposed algorithm, which is non iterative , consists of two steps. Step 1 performs an initial variable selection method. Step 2 uses the results of Step 1 to obtain better estimation of the conditional quantiles and , using them, to perform simultaneous variable selection and estimation of the parametric component of the SIQR model. It is shown that the initial variable selection method consistently estimates the relevant variables , and the estimated parametric component derived in Step 2 satisfies the oracle property.  相似文献

Regularization methods for simultaneous variable selection and coefficient estimation have been shown to be effective in quantile regression in improving the prediction accuracy. In this article, we propose the Bayesian bridge for variable selection and coefficient estimation in quantile regression. A simple and efficient Gibbs sampling algorithm was developed for posterior inference using a scale mixture of uniform representation of the Bayesian bridge prior. This is the first work to discuss regularized quantile regression with the bridge penalty. Both simulated and real data examples show that the proposed method often outperforms quantile regression without regularization, lasso quantile regression, and Bayesian lasso quantile regression.  相似文献

This paper focuses on robust estimation and variable selection for partially linear models. We combine the weighted least absolute deviation (WLAD) regression with the adaptive least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) to achieve simultaneous robust estimation and variable selection for partially linear models. Compared with the LAD-LASSO method, the WLAD-LASSO method will resist to the heavy-tailed errors and outliers in the parametric components. In addition, we estimate the unknown smooth function by a robust local linear regression. Under some regular conditions, the theoretical properties of the proposed estimators are established. We further examine finite-sample performance of the proposed procedure by simulation studies and a real data example.  相似文献

In this paper, varying coefficient models are investigated with the response and covariate prone to measurement error. Without specifying any error structure equation, four estimators of the coefficient function vector are proposed by using the local linear kernel smoothing technique and also proved to be asymptotically normal. The data-driven bandwidth selection method is discussed. Simulation examples are conducted to evaluate the proposed estimation methods.  相似文献

In this paper we are concerned with the problems of variable selection and estimation in double generalized linear models in which both the mean and the dispersion are allowed to depend on explanatory variables. We propose a maximum penalized pseudo-likelihood method when the number of parameters diverges with the sample size. With appropriate selection of the tuning parameters, the consistency of the variable selection procedure and asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established. We also carry out simulation studies and a real data analysis to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed variable selection procedure, showing that the proposed variable selection method works satisfactorily.  相似文献

This paper considers robust variable selection in semiparametric modeling for longitudinal data with an unspecified dependence structure. First, by basis spline approximation and using a general formulation to treat mean, median, quantile and robust mean regressions in one setting, we propose a weighted M-type regression estimator, which achieves robustness against outliers in both the response and covariates directions, and can accommodate heterogeneity, and the asymptotic properties are also established. Furthermore, a penalized weighted M-type estimator is proposed, which can do estimation and select relevant nonparametric and parametric components simultaneously, and robustly. Without any specification of error distribution and intra-subject dependence structure, the variable selection method works beautifully, including consistency in variable selection and oracle property in estimation. Simulation studies also confirm our method and theories.  相似文献

Our article presents a general treatment of the linear regression model, in which the error distribution is modelled nonparametrically and the error variances may be heteroscedastic, thus eliminating the need to transform the dependent variable in many data sets. The mean and variance components of the model may be either parametric or nonparametric, with parsimony achieved through variable selection and model averaging. A Bayesian approach is used for inference with priors that are data-based so that estimation can be carried out automatically with minimal input by the user. A Dirichlet process mixture prior is used to model the error distribution nonparametrically; when there are no regressors in the model, the method reduces to Bayesian density estimation, and we show that in this case the estimator compares favourably with a well-regarded plug-in density estimator. We also consider a method for checking the fit of the full model. The methodology is applied to a number of simulated and real examples and is shown to work well.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of variable selection for partially varying coefficient single-index model, and present a regularized variable selection procedure by combining basis function approximations with smoothly clipped absolute deviation penalty. The proposed procedure simultaneously selects significant variables in the single-index parametric components and the nonparametric coefficient function components. With appropriate selection of the tuning parameters, the consistency of the variable selection procedure and the oracle property of the estimators are established. Finite sample performance of the proposed method is illustrated by a simulation study and real data analysis.  相似文献

Additive varying coefficient models are a natural extension of multiple linear regression models, allowing the regression coefficients to be functions of other variables. Therefore these models are more flexible to model more complex dependencies in data structures. In this paper we consider the problem of selecting in an automatic way the significant variables among a large set of variables, when the interest is on a given response variable. In recent years several grouped regularization methods have been proposed and in this paper we present these under one unified framework in this varying coefficient model context. For each of the discussed grouped regularization methods we investigate the optimization problem to be solved, possible algorithms for doing so, and the variable and estimation consistency of the methods. We investigate the finite-sample performance of these methods, in a comparative study, and illustrate them on real data examples.  相似文献

We propose a shrinkage procedure for simultaneous variable selection and estimation in generalized linear models (GLMs) with an explicit predictive motivation. The procedure estimates the coefficients by minimizing the Kullback-Leibler divergence of a set of predictive distributions to the corresponding predictive distributions for the full model, subject to an l 1 constraint on the coefficient vector. This results in selection of a parsimonious model with similar predictive performance to the full model. Thanks to its similar form to the original Lasso problem for GLMs, our procedure can benefit from available l 1-regularization path algorithms. Simulation studies and real data examples confirm the efficiency of our method in terms of predictive performance on future observations.  相似文献
