国际视野下的大学生学习性投入研究——北京理工大学与美国顶尖研究型大学的比较

通过参与“全国大学生学习性投入”课题研究,并借用NSSE-China调查工具,对北京理工大学本科教育在五大可比指标上与美国顶尖研究型大学的表现进行了比较。研究发现,北京理工大学除了在校园环境支持度上与美国顶尖研究型大学不存在差异外,其他四个指标总体上都不如对方,尤其是在生师互动指标上,差异最为显著。但就低年级和高年级来看,北理工低年级学生的情况优于高年级,低年级学生在主动合作学习和教育经验丰富程度这两个指标上与美国同类院校无差异。     

Understanding top managers’ careers: How does career variety impact tenure on the board?

Career variety has recently received attention in management literature in general, and top management literature in particular. While existing publications have predominantly linked career variety to individual adaptability, agility or competences, this paper focuses on the relationship between top managers’ career variety and their tenure on the board. We rely on the boundaryless career approach and argue that there is a negative relationship between career variety and board tenure. Drawing on a sample of executive directors in UK FT 100 firms, we provide empirical evidence that increased career variety leads to shorter tenure on the board. We also reveal that this relationship is further strengthened with international educational experience. In addition, we show that in-house work experience mitigates the negative association between career variety and board tenure. We contribute to the literature on top managers’ careers by unravelling the consequences that career variety during early and mid-stages of a career has on tenure on the board – and hence on career stability in later stages of a career.

1937年12月14日,美国驻德大使陶德在给总统罗斯福的密电中披露,日本驻德大使东乡茂德承认,日军在攻占南京之前就已杀死了50万中国平民。1938年1月25日,美国国务院接到驻上海总领事高斯就日军暴行的专题报告。这一报告与"广田电报"中记录的英国记者田伯烈关于日军屠杀30万平民的报道的内容完全吻合。美国外交关系档案中记录的来自加害方和第三方的消息相互印证了同一事实:1937年11月至1938年1月,日军在以占领南京为目标的侵略行动中曾经大肆屠杀中国平民和俘虏。若将第三方档案与其他证据(电报、日记、书)连贯起来就能明晰地看到,日军从侵略中国开始就伴随着一系列的屠杀、奸淫、抢劫等残暴的反人类罪行。不仅"南京大屠杀"真实可信,而且在南京沦陷之前、之后,以及在南京周边地区,日军曾施以大量屠杀中国平民的暴行。也就是说,1937年秋冬,不但存在"南京大屠杀",而且还发生更令人震惊的"泛南京大屠杀"。档案及相关记录揭示并证明,日本的侵略野心和军国主义教育就意味着与犯罪相伴,也注定了日本军人成为罪恶的战争与屠杀机器的必然。"南京大屠杀"并非孤立事件,它既不是日军犯罪的开始,也不是其暴行的结束。     

Defining and Dimensionalising Diversity:: Evidence from Corporate Websites across Europe

The corporate ‘diversity statement’ is a new tool increasingly used by large companies to promote diversity management policies on their websites. Through an examination of these on-line texts, we identify how companies construct the meaning of ‘diversity’ through its dimensions. Few companies actually define diversity. However, dimensions of diversity cover a wide-ranging set of individual differences, not just gender and race but other visible and less visible differences that might lead to discrimination in the workplace. By comparing statements from 241 top companies in eight countries (Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK), we reveal how the definition of ‘diversity’ and its dimensions as used on websites varies across Europe.

A Matrix-Based Approach to Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis for Fault Trees1

System unavailabilities for large complex systems such as nuclear power plants are often evaluated through use of fault tree analysis. The system unavailability is obtained from a Boolean representation of a system fault tree. Even after truncation of higher order terms these expressions can be quite large, involving thousands of terms. A general matrix notation is proposed for the representation of Boolean expressions which facilitates uncertainty and sensitivity analysis calculations.     

Expectation management for public sector organizations

Transparency and collecting stakeholder feedback are becoming the norm also in the public sector. Though much of feedback is related to stakeholder experiences, we propose that it is more beneficial to study expectations than experiences, as expectations affect future satisfaction. This study reports a process of collecting and analyzing stakeholder expectations in one health-care oriented public sector organization in Finland, and reports how these expectations and their implications were assessed by the organization's top management. The study suggests that to ensure stakeholder satisfaction and organizational success, top management should be guided to work through the feedback. We propose a “fix or fit” approach where expectations are first grouped and then analyzed as either something that requires changing of organizational functions, or as something that requires guiding of stakeholders’ expectations to fit existing functions.
