Reverse Mortgage Fraud Against Seniors: Recognition and Education of a Burgeoning Problem

With the senescent population and the popularity of aging in place, many seniors are attracted to reverse mortgages to plan for retirement and to maintain their existing housing situation. Although theoretically reverse mortgages represent a viable investment product for those considering retirement, several pitfalls are possible for seniors, who can be unsuspecting victims of fraud. This article provides information detailing the etymology of fraud activities within this market through a storyboard that depicts the various stages of the fraud process. It is hoped that such a tool can enhance the education of consumers on this mortgage product.

旅行社产品的无形性、生产和消费的同时性等特征使旅游者和旅行社之间存在着信息不对称现象,造成旅行社产品市场逆向选择。解决旅行社产品市场逆向选择的关键在于使消费者获得真实、全面的产品信息。通过旅行社向消费者传递产品信息,将赔偿金写入合同来发送信号以及加强政府及第三方管制等途径,可以改善旅行社产品市场逆向选择现象,使消费者和旅行社的利益都得到保障。     

Design of the Reverse Channel for Remanufacturing: Must Profit‐Maximization Harm the Environment?

A key attribute of a remanufacturing strategy is the division of labor in the reverse channel, especially whether remanufacturing is performed in‐house or outsourced. We investigate this decision for a retailer who accepts returns of a remanufacturable product. Our formulation considers the cost structures of the two strategies, uncertainty in the input quality of the collected/returned used products, consumer willingness‐to‐pay for remanufactured product, the extent to which the remanufactured product cannibalizes demand for a new product, and the power structure in the channel. For the profit‐maximizing retailer, the differentials in variable remanufacturing costs drive strategy choice, and higher fixed costs of in‐house remanufacturing favors outsourcing. The variable remanufacturing costs and the balance of power in the prospective outsourced reverse channel are the key drivers of environmental impact, as measured by the retailer's propensity to remanufacture. While profitability and environmental goals often conflict, they align under certain conditions. These include (a) the third party has less bargaining power; or (b) the fixed cost for in‐house remanufacturing is relatively high. All else equal, when remanufacturing is outsourced, the environment fares better if the third party has leadership power. We generalize to the cases when remanufacturing achieves a quality level less than “good‐as‐new" and when used items have non‐zero salvage value. Analysis of these extensions illuminates how relative power in the reverse channel drives the firms’ preferences, as well as the end customers’ consumption experience.

挤压性围岩隧道变形特征分析

乌鞘岭隧道是兰新线重点控制工程，是国内最长的单线铁路隧道。该隧道岭脊地段穿越四条区域性大断层，地应力高，围岩软弱、破碎，属挤压性围岩大变形隧道。隧道施工过程中，出现较为严重的支护变形、支护开裂、钢架扭曲，甚至变形侵限及坍塌事故。针对该隧道特点，开展以变形为主的施工监控量测，进行了变形分布规律、累计变形与最大变形速率的关系、变形与围岩条件的关系以及变形与施工方法的关系等综合分析。提出挤压性围岩隧道具有变形量大、变形速率高、变形持续时间长的变形特征。

Nonstationary Data Analysis by Time Deformation

ABSTRACT

In this article we discuss methodology for analyzing nonstationary time series whose periodic nature changes approximately linearly with time. We make use of the M-stationary process to describe such data sets, and in particular we use the discrete Euler(p) model to obtain forecasts and estimate the spectral characteristics. We discuss the use of the M-spectrum for displaying linear time-varying periodic content in a time series realization in much the same way that the spectrum shows periodic content within a realization of a stationary series. We also introduce the instantaneous frequency and spectrum of an M-stationary process for purposes of describing how frequency changes with time. To illustrate our techniques we use one simulated data set and two bat echolocation signals that show time varying frequency behavior. Our results indicate that for data whose periodic content is changing approximately linearly in time, the Euler model serves as a very good model for spectral analysis, filtering, and forecasting. Additionally, the instantaneous spectrum is shown to provide better representation of the time-varying frequency content in the data than window-based techniques such as the Gabor and wavelet transforms. Finally, it is noted that the results of this article can be extended to processes whose frequencies change like at^α, a > 0, ?∞ < α < ? ∞.

反向保理运用买方信誉缓解中小供应商资金困境，现实中需求扰动时有发生并影响供应链决策。探讨供应商资金约束背景下"买方驱动"反向保理对供应链运营的作用规律，运用极大极小法构建单供应商和单零售商组成的二级供应链模型，得到只知均值和方差时的供应链决策和收益。研究表明：鲁棒决策能为反向保理时需求信息缺失的供应链提供有效而稳健的决策，降低信用违约风险；基于供应链关系的反向保理增强了供应链合作；供应商信誉损失风险不会成为零售商主导反向保理实施的阻碍。丰富了金融与运营交互作用的理论研究。     

产品回收逆向物流网络优化设计模型

为了在传统正向物流网络基础上扩建产品回收逆向物流网络,基于混合整数线性规划方法建立了一种单产品、有能力限制的产品回收逆向物流网络优化设计模型,据此确定物流网络中各种设施的数量和位置,并在由此构成的各条物流路径上合理分配物流量,以使各种设施的投资和运营成本之和最小。给出了提高模型求解效率的Benders分解算法,并通过算例验证了模型和算法的有效性。
