On the linguistic representations of black hunmor in Catch 22

It is widely acknowledged that Joseph Heller is one of the most successful representative writers of black humor genre.The purpose of this paper is to discuss how the linguisitic representations of black humor ranging from paradox,parallelism,repetition,contrast and juxtaposition were skillfully employed in the novel Catch 22 to serve its absurd theme with concrete,typical examples.Based upon this analysis,the paper concludes that this avant-garde literary technique is the most effectivelly manipulated literary device to contribute to the development of the absurd theme in Catch 22 and it is also the linguistic carrier for the surrealistic representation of the lunatic world.
