The Flow and Inheritance of Wealth：An Anthropological Interpretation of Silver Ornament Heritage Custom by the Miao in Shidong

Silver ornament of the Miao people has long been regarded as the symbol of the Miao and related to the appreciation of ancestors and to their belief. Shidong, a town located on Qingshui River in the southeast of Guizhou, is famous in the region for silver ornaments, which are usually ＂beautiful in pattern and skillful in manufacturing＂. The history of Shidong has conditioned the Miao silver ornaments to be a symbol of wealth. It portends Miao silver as wealth inheritance between fixed woman. The significance of the Miao silver ornaments for women in Shidong is particularly impressive at the festival and in wedding ceremony. It is both a reciprocal object, retaining the right of keeping while giving, and the intermediary of soul and affection.
