茅盾是有着纪录中国社会的＂宏大叙事＂理想的作家,又是致力于引进西方文艺思想的理论家。他对于西方＂自然主义＂文学思潮的引进,目的是吸取一种注重＂实证＂的近代科学精神,并且不着痕迹地完成了由理性世界向感性世界的过渡,创作了显示左翼文学实绩的《子夜》等一系列文学名著,在实践上印证了中国式的＂写实主义＂,催生了社会剖析小说流派的诞生。
