庞德与儒家思想

庞德一生都致力于向美国人包括欧洲人介绍中国文化,他特别推崇以孔子为代表的儒家之思想,认为儒家思想是拯救混乱、黑暗西方的精神危机的灵丹妙药。庞德的《诗章》引用了诸多《论语》等中国儒学经典的词句,并且很多地方直接使用汉字,蕴含着浓厚的儒家思想。全面考察《诗章》可知儒家思想对庞德的影响之深刻,儒家主张的秩序、和谐和个人的内省修身,是庞德文学主张和精神诉求的集中体现。

Ezra Pound and Confucianism

Ezra Pound devoted his whole life to introducing Chinese culture to Western world. He believed in Kung＇ s Confucianism deeply, making it a cure to save Western chaos and spiritual crisis of darkness. In The Can- tos,Pound quoted frequently from classical Confucian works like The Analects and even directly used Chinese characters with profound Confucian thought. After an integrated examination on The Cantos, we see the deep Con- fucian impact on Pound and conclude that these Confucian principles like order, peace and harmony, and the in- ward self-examination and self-improvement of the individual are in fact the consummate embodiment of his liter- ary declaration and political appeal.
