由鲁迅《狂人日记》所开创的中国现代小说传统是观念的传统而非方法论的传统。其本质是否定的现实主义而非“批判的现实主义”,这带来了中国现实主义文学的政治时尚化:由启蒙现实主义到革命现实主义,现实主义文学追随中国现代文化和政治革命的步伐,由否定的一极走向肯定的一极,政治化的情绪表达代替了文学化的情感表达和文化性的理性表达。

Lu Xun: Realism and the Fashion of Politics——Call to Arms, Wandering and the engendering of modern Chinese novels( third section of the research project for the origin and history of modern Chinese literature)

The tradition of modern Chinese novels,which takes it root in Lu Xun's literary work The Diary of a Madman,is a tradition of ideology rather than a tradition of methodology.In essence it is a negative realism instead of a critical realism,which brought about the political fashion of Chinese realistic literature: from enlightenment realism to revolutionary realism,realistic literature followed the steps of modern Chinese culture and political revolution,moving from the extremes of negation to affirmation with emotional expressions of political concerns instead of rational expression of literary and cultural themes.
