Lifestyle Options and Economic Strategies: Subsistence Activities in the Mississippi Delta1

Abstract "Subsistence" and "informal economy" are contrasted in their utility as sociological concepts and their ability to explain a variety of activities in two rural Mississippi Delta communities. Literature on subsistence stresses that the desired outcome of participation is not an increase in income but the social rewards of participation itself. Two underlying dimensions of participation in these activities are documented through the literature and through a confirmatory factor analysis of empirical data: life-style choice and economic strategy. These were constructed into indexes and examined individually and in combination as dependent variables using regressors at the community, household, and individual levels. Community ties were weakly associated with participation in such activities. Whites and those with higher incomes participated more in lifestyle choice oriented activities. Participation in general was statistically related to households needing less weekly income and being of larger size. Potential connections with persistent rural poverty are discussed.

Flow shop scheduling with deteriorating jobs under dominating machines

This paper addresses no-wait or no-idle flow shop scheduling problems with deteriorating jobs, i.e., jobs whose processing times are an increasing function of their starting time. A simple linear deterioration function is assumed and some dominating relationships between machines can be satisfied. It is shown that for the problems to minimize makespan or weighted sum of completion time, polynomial algorithms still exist, although these problems are more complicated than the classical ones. When the objective is to minimize maximum lateness or maximum tardiness, the solutions of a classical version may not hold.

公司的股份集中于少数几个大股东手中是中国公司股权结构的一个普遍特征,研究这些大股东如何凭借其持股地位影响公司业绩是中国公司股权结构研究的一个非常重要的问题.本文选取了在上交所上市的公用事业型公司1998年至2002年的平行数据进行实证研究,结果表明,法人股对公司业绩有积极影响,国有股对公司业绩的影响视具体情况而定.     

我国城市居民购买有机农产品的渠道研究

研究显示,城市居民选择有机农产品购买渠道的主要影响因素包括家庭月收入、购买便利度、价格高低以及商家可信度.通过构建理论模型并进行实证检验,发现家庭月收入等因素对超市渠道的影响比较显著;价格高低、商家可信度等因素则对网店渠道的影响较为显著.为进一步完善有机农产品的购买渠道,商家应合理定价,保证商品质量;渠道终端应找准定位、完善服务;相关政府部门应进一步完善有机农产品市场的监察制度,确保消费者利益.     

改革开放40年我国高中阶段教育政策的价值变迁

高中阶段教育是世界各国制定教育规划时共同的关注焦点,也是我国义务教育向高等教育过渡的关键节点。改革开放以来,我国高中阶段教育政策从注重单方面质、量的平行发展到兼顾质与量的统筹发展,再到回归个体本身的个性发展,从关注学生的外部属性再深化到内部属性,价值取向处在逐步演进中,由最初的社会本位取向转变为大众主义取向,紧接着体现出以人为本取向,深刻反映了时代变化与发展的诉求。     

基于GARCH族模型的深证成指波动特征实证分析

采用GARCH族模型对深证成指总体及分阶段收益率的波动性进行统计拟合分析,指出深证成指的波动具有集聚性、持久性、显著的非对称性效应及阶段性特征。以深证成指价格达到最高点的时间点为分界,将整个样本分成两个阶段:在第一阶段,“利好消息”对深证成指的冲击比同等程度的“利空消息”大;在第二阶段,“利空消息”的冲击比同等程度的“利好消息”大。这说明深证市场具有杠杆效应。

长江经济带生态效率时空格局演化及影响因素研究

文章基于108个城市2004-2014年市级面板数据测度了长江经济带城市生态效率的时空演变格局,综合而言,长江经济带生态效率水平呈现出波动上升态势,长江流域城市生态效率分化特征明显,湖南、湖北和四川等长江上游城市生态效率较高,长江上、中、下游地区城市生态效率依次递减.对生态效率的影响因素研究表明,科技创新显著地提高了长江经济带的生态效率,经济快速增长降低了城市生态效率,意味着转变经济增长方式、加快科技创新是提高城市生态效率的有效途径.研究还发现,产业结构偏离度有利于提高城市生态效率,而产业升级抑制了城市生态效率的增长,意味着产业升级并不是提高城市生态效率的捷径.
