Discourses of cultural heritage in times of crisis: The case of the Parthenon Marbles

The paper focuses on the commodification and politicisation of cultural heritage using as a case study the ongoing debate on the return of the Parthenon Marbles from the U.K. to Greece, recently reignited by the press release for the movie The Monuments Men in 2014. Greece has been in the throes of a severe financial crisis for over six years with the ever imminent threat of Grexit constantly disputed. In parallel with this ongoing turmoil, discourses of Greek antiquity have been persistently prominent in the media. In this context, we problematise the complex nexus of relationships between the financial crisis, national identity and cultural heritage. We combine the Discourse‐Historical Approach and Interactional Sociolinguistics drawing data from an online forum, and investigate how the users negotiate pro‐/anti‐return positions and make the financial crisis relevant in the argumentation process. The analysis shows that history, identity, value, and debt are recontextualised in relation to the Parthenon sculptures. The analysis identifies an underlying process of value trade off and brings the current political and economic environment to the fore. We close the paper by foregrounding the implications of our study and provide directions for further research.

Conceptualizing community in the context of work and family

In recent years, many work-family scholars and practitioners have called for expanding the analysis of work and family to include community. This paper uses the ecological systems approach as a framework for selecting and reviewing community concepts thought to be relevant to the analysis of work, community, and family. Based on the work-family literature and the review of community concepts, the paper creates a set of common categories of characteristics for the analysis of relationships among community, work, and family. The development of such categories is a first step in understanding work, community, and family as interrelated domains. Hopefully, they will be useful for developing and testing hypotheses regarding interrelationships among work, community, and family and the effects of work, community, and family characteristics on domain quality and individual well-being. On a vu, au cours de ces dernières années, de nombreux professeurs et praticiens demander que soit étendue l'analyse du travail et de la famille pour inclure la communauté. Cet article utilise l'approche des systèmes écologiques comme base de sélection et d'étude des principes de communauté considérés pertinents dans l'analyse du travail, de la communauté et de la famille. Ensuite, en s'appuyant sur la littérature visant le travail et la famille, ainsi que sur l'étude des principes de communauté, l'article établit un jeu de catégories communes des caractéristiques permettant l'analyse de rapports entre communauté, travail et famille. L'établissement de telles catégories constitue un premier pas envers une meilleure compréhension de l'interrelation entre les domaines du travail, de la communauté et de la famille. Il est à espérer que cela sera utile envers le développement et l'évaluation des hypothèses visant à établir une relation entre le travail, la communauté et la famille, ainsi que l'influence qu'auraient les caractéristiques du travail, de la communauté et de la famille sur la qualité du domaine et la qualité de la vie.     

Implementation of JIT purchasing: An integrated approach

This article addresses the necessity of integration between buyer and supplier for effective implementation of the JIT system. An integrated lot-splitting model of facilitating multiple shipments in small lots is developed and compared with the existing approach in a simple JIT environment, single-buyer-single-supplier, under deterministic conditions for a single product. It is shown that the optimal policy adopted by the integrated approach can provide a strong and consistent cost-minimizing effect for both buyer and supplier over the existing approach.

局限与突破———反思斯内尔-霍恩比的翻译研究综合方法

通过对玛丽·斯内尔-霍恩比的翻译研究综合方法的理论反思,指出其综合法存在三大局限:一是过于偏向语言学取向的研究途径;二是未能真正超越德国功能主义学派的理论;三是实际操作层面上存在自相矛盾的情况.这些局限使得综合法在当下翻译研究发展进程中逐渐失去了原有的价值.为突破这些局限,提出应当在保留格式塔和原型概念的基础上建立一种更具综合性的新方法体系,以期进一步推动翻译研究的发展.     

大学英语教学中文学教学的适用性

文学教学对大学英语教学具有很大适用性。首先,文学教学与大学英语教学提高学生综合文化素养这一教学目标一致。文学文本为学生提供一种进入其他文化的途径和模式,它对文化的独特呈现方式更能有效地对学生进行审美教育。其次,文学教学提供一种语言模式。它采取一种自上而下、从整体到局部的方法,让学生从文学经验开始,渐渐融入语言学习,激发语言意识。最后,文学教学与交际教学法相契合。文学文本因为其主题的丰富性、内容的广泛性、意义的潜在性而富于极大的口语潜能,是有效实施交际教学法的极佳平台。     

限价指令簿的价格发现功能

基于上海证券交易所Level—2行情数据,本文运用Hasbrouck信息份额方法分别估计最近成交价、限价指令簿中最优买卖报价及第2—10档次买卖报价在价格发现中的贡献度,以考察限价指令簿的价格发现功能,尤其关注次优限价指令对价格发现的影响。我们认为,次优限价指令有助于价格发现,其贡献度为21.43%,而且其贡献度随指令主动性的下降而递减;最优限价指令的贡献度最大,为63.82%;最近成交价的贡献度最小,为14.76%;另外,本文还考察了个股横截面特征是否影响次优限价指令对价格发现的贡献度。实证结果表明:随着个股交易活跃度的下降,投资者更倾向于提交限价指令,从而导致次优限价指令对价格发现的贡献度增加;同时,其贡献度随公司规模和Beta系数的上升而单调下降。
