实在的意义

实在的意义是传统哲学的核心问题.传统哲学企图通过对实在的规定来确立真理、客观性和合理性.对实在概念的严格分析表明,"实在"的意义是由常识和科学提供的,依赖于现实的、具体的证据,除此之外,哲学不能为"实在"提供常识和科学之外或之上的定义.所以,我们不需要有一个关于实在的哲学.形而上学的实在论对当代哲学的攻击大多是无的放矢的.

The Meaning of Reality

The meaning of the term reality is the central concern of traditional philosophy. Metaphysical realists try to illuminate truth, objectivity and rationality in terms of reality. But a conceptual analysis of the term reality suggests that the meaning of the term reality is to be explained by reference to specific evidence available in commonsense and scientific practice, and philosophy has no way to articulate an interpretation of reality beyond or above commonsense and science. It follows that we need no longer a philosophy of reality or a metaphysical realism, and the attack on contemporary philosophical trends by so called "realists" is largely pointless.
